2010 BRITISH GP: FRIDAY FREE PRACTICE RESULTS
Australian, who finished the first training with the fourth best time, set a fastest time of 1:31.234 sec. by a margin of almost four tenth ahead of Fernando Alonso at the second position and 6.5 tenth of his team-mate Sebastian Vettel on third. Weber was the first man under 1:32.000 sec. So, Red Bull is in the best position for qualifying on Saturday. Ferrari had an impressive session with Felipe Massa in fourth position, ahead of Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. Unlike Ferrari , Mclaren`s cars of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button had weak pace on this training, ending on 8-th and 13-th position respectively. But we should be aweare that today we saw a lot of experiments with cars at Silverstone.

Sebastian Vettel set the early pace for the British Grand Prix weekend, after topping the timesheets for the first free practice session on Friday morning. Vettel clocked a quickest time of 1:32.280, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and the Renault of Robert Kubica. Both Hamilton and Jenson Button were running exhaust-blown diffusers on their McLarens for the first time, in the hope of closing the gap to Red Bull through high-speed corners. Ferrari, which had hoped to make big strides forward this weekend, was some way off the pace, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa setting the 13th and 17th fastest times respectively. However, with fuel loads unknown and so many teams experimenting with developments on their cars, the times are not necessarily indicative of the true order.

KUBICA EXTEND HIS DEAL WITH RENAULT
Robert Kubica:
"It was a straightforward decision for me to continue with a team where I feel at home. What's important for me is to be in the right atmosphere, with a good group of people, where everybody is pulling in the same direction. This is what we have tried to build from the beginning of my time with Renault. I think we have already achieved a lot together, and I believe that with plenty of effort, time and the right approach, we can move even further forward. That is certainly our target, so we will keep working hard and pushing on every front, not just for the rest of this season but also for next year when there are more big rule changes on the way. I am really looking forward to the challenge."
Eric Boullier:
"We are delighted that Robert will remain with us for the next two seasons and I would like to thank him for the faith he has shown in this team. There have been many rumours surrounding his future in recent weeks, which were a tribute to how well he has driven this year, and we are very happy to have agreed a multi-year deal. Our clear goal is to become title contenders over the next two years. To do so, we need a driver of Robert's calibre: somebody who is fast, totally committed and doesn't make mistakes. His performances during the first half of the 2010 season were flawless, and we hope to achieve great things together in the future."
Schumacher and Mercedes facing tyre problems
Michael Schumacher has admitted that he and Mercedes have to face up to their problems in order to turn their season around.
"We have to face the fact that we were less competitive in Valencia than we had hoped for which makes it difficult to predict how we can perform at the British Grand Prix. Our race pace has been quite promising but our qualifying speed is not yet ideal and we still do not understand the full picture about the tyres. This clearly is something that we will keep working on intensively."
Mercedes Valencia upgrade included a blown diffuser, similar to the one used to devastating effect on the Red Bull so far this season, and team principal Ross Brawn believes it will start to show its true effect on the car's performance over the coming races.
"Our team has had a challenging time over the recent race weekends in Montreal and Valencia but we retain our motivation and are working hard to improve our performance and maximise the potential which can be taken from our latest upgrades. It's a long hard road ahead but we are confident that we will get there."
